a meager update

Fri Aug 15, 2008, 9:12 PM
Back on DeviantArt! Will most definitely try to upload my works from the summer. I'm still bowled over
by the number of new faces/artists I discover on DA every day. I'm especially in love with all the
traditional pencil/color pencil artists. Seeing that I just blew some $1400 on my new Mac laptop, I think
that a tablet has to wait for a while. ToT It's especially going to be difficult next year to keep
up with art but I will definitely try! Think- no open studios and I can't just lug a trunkful of paints
cross-country so I'll have to settle for pencil, colored pencil, and maybe watercolor.

I've also been unable to focus this past week because of the Olympics. o.o It's so exhilarating! Which is kind of ironic because I'm a naturally unathletic person...watching Michael Phelps swim is an experience like no other! And the gymnastics are always fun to watch. I really have an appreciation for the Olympics which seems misplaced with my interests. ^^;; Definitely not like the designers for last week's Project Runway for which the contestants had to design a Opening Ceremony uniform for women. Poor Daniel's dress was more like from the 'Republic of Cocktail Dresses' than an Olympics outfit.

It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.
thanks for the faves :)

My Gallery
hey
cool gallery !!!
i've never really agreed with the process of underpainting, so i just do a light sketch on my surface then dive straight into color application. and i do work very thin, i blend my colors on my palette and on my canvas, but also use separate dry brushes to get rid of any distracting brush strokes and blend further -- creating the smoothness. i think it's beautiful to see really thick strokes of paint on a canvas, but that's just not how i naturally work. thanks for the interest, hope that answered your question. have fun with your paintings!
